Elaine Hornagold - Line Dancing Through Lockdown

  • Elaine Hornagold - Line Dancing Through Lockdown

For Elaine having to close her classes and enter lock down has been a real double whammy, as very sadly she recently lost her husband, Malcolm, so dancing, running her classes and of course her wonderful dancers, were helping her through this. Once she had made the decision to close her classes Elaine managed to contact most of her dancers through Facebook and on the messenger group they already had set up, and they now use to keep in contact on a daily basis.
Elaine freely admits that IT and anything technical had always been Malcolm’s domain, he had already built her a website and assisted her with setting up a YouTube channel, however she says that for those teachers who haven’t got either of those, the Everything Line Dance tutorials will be very useful. Elaine intends to use these tutorials to learn how to record videos of herself dancing, particularly of, as and when, she releases new choreography and then upload them to her YouTube channel. This is something that Malcolm used to do for her, recording her dances on the camcorder, editing and then uploading them, but learning to this for herself will be a huge boost to her and she knows that Malcolm would be very proud of her too.

Elaine says that she doesn’t think anyone truly envisaged the impact that COVID-19 was going to have on us all or that we would have to find a new way of operating for the length of time we have. Thankfully Billy Curtis had a plan and by following this people are still dancing alone, together and teachers are able to manage their line dance businesses.

Whilst deciding not to hold any live lessons, as she is still working part-time and didn’t want the additional pressure of having to be online at a set time, which for those of us who are holding live online lessons is far greater than I think we had anticipated. Elaine is still uploading a walk through of the dances, that she had been recently teaching in her classes, by recording these on her phone and uploading them straight to her Facebook page, which not only has her dancers on it, but other Facebook friends and dancers from around the country too. Alongside this, Elaine is in daily contact with her dancers on their messenger chat, setting them a daily quiz and a daily Male picture too! Her dancers are also taking part in group video calls too.

Like many of us Elaine is having problems with music on her recordings being muted due to copyright issues. However, using the ELD music library, which members of the site are able to access for FREE, she is able to download and dance to recordings uploaded by various artists from the line dance and country music circuit and the music is no longer muted. Please ensure that if you do use these tracks that you credit the artist performing in both the text and on the video, as Elaine does. Billy is working on a solution to the online streaming sound issues and if you comment on his post in the line dance support group you can help provide him with the test data needed to tackle this problem.

If you wish to follow Elaine at Applejax Linedancers and dance along with the videos she is uploading, you can do so by clicking here. ALso, don't ofrget to check out Elaine's ELD profile.
